12 Stone Re-Stackable Great Lakes Cairn, Lake Michigan & Superior Beach Stone Sculpture, Interactive Stone Art, 8 Tall

12 Stone Re-Stackable Great Lakes Cairn, Lake Michigan & Superior Beach Stone Sculpture, Interactive Stone Art, 8" Tall

$105.00

A substantial 12-stone re-stackable cairn handcrafted from natural Lake Michigan and Lake Superior stones. This interactive stone sculpture brings together distinctive Great Lakes geology and the timeless symbolism of cairns, creating a meaningful piece for a home, great room, office, or meditation space.

Some stones seem destined to find each other.

This cairn brings together a collection of stones from both Great Lakes. Among them are amygdaloidal basalt from Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, Lake Superior sandstones collected from the Marquette area to Crisp Point, peridotite from Black Rocks in Marquette, and a Keweenaw stone containing small natural copper inclusions. Lake Michigan beach stones complete this collection, making the sculpture a gathering of geological character and shoreline history from both lakes.

The number twelve gives this cairn a special connection to the biblical tradition of the twelve memorial stones described in Joshua 4. After crossing the Jordan River, the twelve stones were set up as a reminder of an important moment in the journey of the Israelites. The idea of a stone serving as a lasting reminder also brings to mind the Ebenezer, or "stone of help," mentioned in 1 Samuel 7:12.

Whether viewed through that biblical connection or simply appreciated as a gathering of twelve Great Lakes stones, this cairn can represent remembrance, guidance, gratitude, perseverance, and the stories we carry with us.

Unlike a permanently bonded sculpture, this cairn is completely re-stackable. The stones can be taken apart and rebuilt, or arranged in new combinations. Its substantial size makes it especially suited to an interactive display on a large wooden tray, tabletop, or other dedicated surface in a great room or living space. When finished, give a a mist of water and watch the true colors and patterns in these stones come out like shown in one of the photos. It offers a hands-on way to enjoy natural stone balancing, quiet reflection, and the changing possibilities of the stones.
